What is an Equipment Condition Affirmation (ECA)

What Is Equipment Condition Affirmation (ECA)?

Simply put, ECA (Equipment Condition Affirmation) is a confirmation that your truck is in good working condition at the time you apply for coverage.

It’s not a formal inspection or a diagnostic test. Instead, it’s a shared acknowledgment—signed by the dealer, customer, or broker—that:

  • There are no warning lights (like check engine or MIL)
  • No leaks, seeps, or abnormal noises
  • No existing fault codes or unresolved issues

It applies to critical systems including the engine, transmission, differential, turbo, and aftertreatment components.

Why Does It Matter?

1. Prevents Pre-Existing Condition Claims
The ECA protects everyone by clearly documenting the truck’s condition before the agreement starts. This avoids confusion—and denial—around repairs for issues that existed before coverage was in place.

2. Speeds Up the Claims Process
If there’s a breakdown, the Total360™ claims team can move faster knowing the truck passed ECA when coverage was activated. This helps drivers get back on the road with less downtime.

3. Promotes Fairness
ECA ensures that all drivers—whether purchasing coverage for a brand-new rig or a high-mileage workhorse—start with the same expectations. It keeps costs fair and protection reliable.

Do I Need an Inspection for ECA?

No. ECA is not the same as a DOT or emissions inspection. There’s no formal paperwork or shop visit required. It’s simply an affirmation that:

“To the best of your knowledge, the truck is operating properly right now.”

However, if any of the required systems are showing faults or warning lights, they must be addressed before coverage can begin.

When Is ECA Required?

ECA must be completed at the start of your agreement, and applies whether you’re getting coverage through a dealer, financing partner, or directly through a Total360™ representative.

We also recommend checking your truck against DOT Inspection Requirements to ensure it’s road-ready and compliant.

More Than a formality

Equipment Condition Affirmation (ECA) is more than a formality. It’s a proactive step that ensures your protection starts strong and stays reliable. It’s about transparency, trust, and keeping your business moving forward.

At Total360™, we’re committed to fair and honest coverage—and ECA helps make that possible.
